VERIVERY Open Up About How Their Style Has Changed Since Debut

When K-pop group VERIVERY debuted in 2019, we saw Dongheon, Hoyoung, Minchan, Gyehyeon, Yeonho, Yongseung, and Kangmin with a trend-driven style focusing on streetwear accentuated by bold colors and retro aesthetics. Now, VERIVERY has released their first full-length album, Series ‘O’ [Round 3 : Whole], with a whole new look. The teasers, which showed the members in boxing-themed athleisure ‘fits and patch-worked suits, led to a music video filled with visuals that showed a more edgy side of the group.

Of course, a lot has changed over the past three years. Shortly after VERIVERY released “Lay Back,” the world came to a halt in 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic began. But that did not stop VERIVERY. The group went on to release a track for the hit series Itaewon Class, join Road To Kingdom, and drop fan-favorite songs like “Get Away.”

Fresh off the release of “Undercover” on April 25, Teen Vogue caught up with VERIVERY to learn all about how their style has developed both on and off the stage, plus what they’d like to do in the future.

In K-pop, styling is another layer of artists’ music and concepts, the finishing touch showcasing their unique tone and personality. “When we first debuted, Kangmin was very young, so our vision and style was to look like young boys,” says Dongheon, the eldest member and leader of the group, while gesturing towards the maknae.

“A lot has changed, but a lot has changed along the songs, actually,” main vocalist Yeonho adds. “At the beginning, when we first debuted we did genres like new jack swing and it was [paired with] more [of a] cute style that we were going with, but now, as we’ve grown and as we’ve matured over the years, so has our style and music.”
