AZventure Series:
Powerful Content and Best Practices

10-Minute Field Trips and Kitchen Sink Science

5.5 Professional Development Hours
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
October 4, 2008 – East Valley

Designed for pre-service teachers in grades K-4, special education teachers

Important Note: This workshop offers 5.5 instructional hours. NAU students (ECI 574 - Master of Education Elementary Education with Certification Emphasis) will receive additional training in the 5E Model of Inquiry during the preceding week.

Research shows that hands-on, minds-on, real-world experiences are powerful ways to help students develop enduring understanding, but it is often difficult to implement these on a regular basis. Discover the many natural resource-related field trip possibilities within your own schoolyard! Learn how simple, everyday materials can be used to teach important scientific concepts. Although this workshop is especially designed to meet the needs of K-4 teachers, others will find the content easy to adapt for their own grade level. Leave this experience with increased knowledge and skills for impacting the rigor and relevance of your instruction.
